William Aiken Obituary

William H. Aiken, 85, of Champion, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at 6:40 p.m. at Armstrong Memory Care in Champion under the comforting care of hospice after a battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born November 29, 1935, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Herbert and Vera Erskine Aiken.

William graduated from New Castle High School and was employed as a Tool & Die Maker at Packard Electric Division of General Motors Corp., retiring after 30 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was transferred to the reserves and served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard for six years and enjoyed fishing and building bird houses and feeders.

William was an active member of Bazetta Christian Church since 1981, where he served in various capacities over the years ending as Elder Emeritus. He volunteered his time and talents with the Cortland Area Cares Food Pantry and was a charter member of Cortland Humanitarian Outreach Worldwide, C.H.O.W.

Surviving are his wife the former Kay Johnson whom he married, February 26, 1960, two daughters; Karen Murphy of Cortland, Ohio and Kathy (Michael) Landmesser of Bluemont, VA; a son Michael Aiken of Champion; three grandchildren Daniel Murphy, Jacob (Jennifer) Landmesser, and Hallee Landmesser; and a great grandson Hank Landmesser. Also surviving are three sisters; Eilleen Slack of New Castle, PA, twin sister Wilma Hutchison of Franklin, PA, and Sandra Aiken of Wilmington, PA.

Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by an infant brother Earl Aiken.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 21, 2021, from 12:30 p.m. until 2:20 p.m. in the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home.

A Funeral Service will take place on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Timothy McCollum, Pastor of Bazetta Christian Church and Rev. Steven Brown, Chaplain of Southern Care Hospice as celebrants.

Burial will take place in Meadow Brook Memorial Park in Champion.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in William’s name to Bazetta Christian Church, 4131 Hoagland Blackstub Road, Cortland, Ohio 44410 or to Southern Care Hospice 5401 Ashley Circle Suite E, Austintown, Ohio 44515.
