Wiiliam Merrifield Obituary

VIENNA – William “Bill” Merrifield, 94, died at 8:50 am Sunday, March 29, 2020 at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren after a short illness.  He was born November 12, 1925 in Howland, the son of Russel and Mabel Merrifield.

Bill served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.  He received the Purple Heart and Silver Star for his service in the Pacific, Guam, and Iwo Jima.  He was an honest gentleman and a patriot.

He was a graduate of Howland High School and worked at Copperweld Steel for thirty-eight years. He and Joan married in 1956 and spent sixty-three years enjoying many outdoor activities.  He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing in many countries.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Joan (LeFevre) Merrifield; one son, Timothy Merrifield; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters, and son William R. Merrifield.

There will be no calling hours or services.  The family requests that contributions be made in his name to the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County, 812 Youngstown-Kingsville Rd., Vienna, Ohio 44473.
