Stephen Mrofchak Obituary

Mr. Stephen E. Mrofchak, 93, of Warren, entered peacefully into eternal life on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 8:46 p.m. in Austintown Health Care Center in Youngstown following a long illness.

Steve was born Tuesday, August 2, 1927 in Youngstown the son of the late Joseph and Anna Filip Mrofchak and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and attended and successfully passed training as an electrician at De Forest’s Training, Inc. in Chicago in 1949.

Steve was a veteran of the United States Navy having served his country abroad during World War II.  For his service to his country he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific area Campaign Medal.  He received an honorable discharge on August 10, 1946 at U.S. Naval Personnel Separation Center, Great Lakes, Illinois with the rank of Seaman First Class.

Steve retired after 35 years of service as an electrician at Packard Electric.  After retiring, he belonged to the 717 Packard Retirees.

Steve was a member of Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Warren.

He is survived by three sons; Michael S. (Sherry) Mrofchak of Ashtabula, Paul E. (Laura) Mrofchak of Florence, KY, and Chris M. Mrofchak of Warren; a brother John Mrofchak of Warren and three grandchildren Jeremiah, Cameron A. and Stephenie Mrofchak and Mariah Stamm, Ashley Johnson Shana Smith and thirteen great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his wife 61 years the former Michelena Sollitto, whom he married on June 14, 1952 and passed away July 5, 2013; three brothers Paul, Joseph and William Mrofchak and by two sisters Mary Byle and Joan Paulik.

A Funeral Service, with Fr. Christopher Cicero officiating, will be held privately on Friday, December 4, 2020 in the funeral home.  Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Steve’s name to World War II Memorial c/o Trust for National Mall, 900 Ohio Drive SW, Washington DC, 20024.
