Ronald F. Mooney

Ronald F. Mooney, 78, entered peacefully into eternal life, on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 11:15 a.m. in the comfort of his own home under the comforting care of Mercy Health Hospice.

Ron was born Sunday, October 11, 1942 in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Francis and Helen Gerchak Mooney.

He attended and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in geography and math.  He retired as a supervisor with General Motors Packard Electric in 2000 where he worked for 28 years.

He was a veteran of the United States Army having served abroad during the Vietnam War with the 557^th Paratroop Company.  For his service to his country, he was awarded the expert rifleman’s badge and the good conduct medal and was honorably discharged on December 28, 1964 with the rank of Army Specialist.

Ron had many hobbies.  He enjoyed hunting in the Allegheny National Forest, downhill skiing and sail boating.  He was a crazy Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  What was most important to Ron was his devotion to his family.

He was a member of St. William Catholic Church in Champion.

Ron is survived by his wife the former Felicia T. Bednarczyk, whom he married on April 23, 1966; two sons Michael Ronald (Kathleen) Mooney of Holland, Ohio and David Patrick (Kelly) Mooney of Cortland; and by two grandsons Noah Mooney and Dylan Mooney.

Besides his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a sister Sylvia McQuade and by a brother Thomas Mooney.

Family will receive friends on Monday, May 24, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. in the vestibule of St. William Catholic Church.

A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the church with Fr. Michael D. Balash as celebrant.

Entombment will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Ron’s name to St. William Catholic Church, 5411 Mahoning Ave, Warren, Ohio 44483.
