Robert J. Riel

NEW SPRINGFIELD – Robert J. Riel, age 61, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 25, 2020 at  home, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born March 8, 1959 in Youngstown, the son of James and Joann (Brabant) Riel, and lived most of his life in the area.

Robert attended New Springfield High School and worked in construction. An avid NASCAR fan, he enjoyed playing pool, fishing, cookouts, camping, and cornhole, especially with his family and friends.  He was a member of VFW Post 2799 and volunteered many hours.

Precious memories of Robert live on with his dear mother, Joann Riel; four sisters:
Carol Shoemaker, Cindy Riel, Pam Riel, and Patti Kosek; three brothers: Daniel (Jeanie) Smith, Ted (Sue) Smith, and John Riel; many nieces, nephews, and their families; and his beloved dogs Baby and Sarge.

Preceding him in death are his father, James Robert Riel; and three sisters: Cheri Stepan, Lauri Smith, and Janis Kitchen.

Services are private.  To honor his wishes, cremation is taking place.
