Rita Louise Remmick, 77, of Howland Township and formerly of Cortland, entered peacefully into eternal life on Friday, October 16, 2020 with her loving family by her side under the comforting care of hospice.
Rita was born Saturday, October 31, 1942 in Youngstown the daughter of the late Andrew Slanco and Rosemary Brogley Simpson and was a lifelong area resident.
A 1960 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Rita worked for over 20 years as a secretary for Warren City Schools retiring in 2003 from Warren G. Harding High School.
She was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Cortland.
Rita enjoyed sewing and cooking. Over the years, Rita was known for making all her grandchildren’s Halloween costumes and Christmas pajamas with her wonderful talent as a seamstress. She was a family person and matriarch of her family. Rita enjoyed being surrounded by her family during the holidays and being the host of all the holiday dinners and summer gatherings held at her home. Rita lived for her grandchildren and was their strong supporter, supporting them in all their endeavors. She truly was their biggest fan, and they were the apples of her eye.
Rita was married on June 26, 1961 to her husband of 59 years, Howard W. Remmick Jr. and he survives her along with her children Renee M. (John) Craciun of Cortland, Jeffrey H. (Lisa) Remmick of Cortland; grandchildren Nicholas A. and Noah A. Craciun, Jeffrey H. (Jenna Stirling) Remmick Jr., Olivia R. and Claire R. Remmick and a great granddaughter Lily D. Craciun all of Cortland. She is also survived by two brothers Ronald (Kathy) Slanco of Warren and William (Barb) Simpson of Warren; and by a stepbrother James (Marie) Simpson of Cleveland.
Besides her parents, Rita was preceded in death by a son Drew J. Remmick and by a stepsister Paula Phillpotts.
Family will receive friends on Monday, October 19, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:50 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church 4659 Niles Cortland Road NE, Cortland, Ohio 44410.
A Mass of Christian Burial, with Fr. Carl Kish officiating, will be offered on Monday, October 19, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.
All Social Distancing mandated by the State will be upheld and the wearing of a facial covering or mask will be required while attending calling hours and funeral Mass at the church.
