Obed Hines

Senior Deacon Obed Hines, age 82, of Youngstown, entered eternal rest Friday, December 14, 2018 at Windsor House Rehabilitation Center in Youngstown.  Senior Deacon Hines was born June 28, 1936 in Youngstown, the son of Advanced Presiding Carl Mark Hines and Advanced Senior Mother Cora Collins Hines.

He was a graduate of Summer High School, Class of 1953 in Kansas City, Kansas. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy at age 18, and after serving four years, attended college for two years at California University.

He was a long-time resident of Thousand Oaks, Calif. and was employed with Yellow Transportation for 20 years.  He was an avid sportsman who was on the swim team and boxing team.  He also was a tennis and yoga instructor.  He travelled extensively in Cuba, Germany, England, and many states in the U.S.

He was a very private person, steadfast, true, pleasant, honest, kind, and helpful.  He would say, “I love the Lord with all my heart.  I am his servant.  Praise the God of Jacob.”

He was very dedicated to his church, the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob. He dearly loved his spiritual and natural family, and was Senior Deacon for many years in Compton, Calif., where he was also a member of the Bible School.  He supported the Sons of God and the Senior Saint Organization.  He was a Communion steward and travelled on many missionary trips and church convocations.

He leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Advanced Senior Mother Melba Davis; one brother, Mr. Reuben Hines; two nieces, Sister Jewel Davis Bledsoe and Sister Leslie Davis; one nephew, Brother Christopher Davis, Jr.; and other family and friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents.

Services are 10:00 am Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob, 2931 Clingan St., Youngstown, Ohio 44505.  Interment will follow at Tod Homestead Cemetery.
