Mary Ballas, was born in the town that she loved to live in Warren. She was born on February 6, 1925, at the old St. Jose hospital. David is her surviving brother, along with his wife Lynette, nephew Jason, spouse Karen, nephew Jed, spouse Melissa, and grandnieces Athena Stallworth, Ashley and Emma Cavadas and grandnephew Troy Cavadas. She was preceded in death by her parents; Pete and Stella, sisters Rebecca Wilson, Esther Garbinski (Richard). Also niece Jamie Wilson and grandnephew Brandon Wilson, and many cousins and in laws.
She was raised on the west side of town, going to Dickey Ave, West Jr and Harding High Schools. She was not shy of working. She would sell eggs and vegetables, from house to house for her dad when she was a young teen. Her next job was at the North Park Ave Sears, when she turned 18. For a short time she worked at Trumbull lamp and Packard, later AAA. In 1951 she was introduced to Chris Ballas at the Washington DC Jehovah’s Witness District Convention, by one of her Greek girlfriends, and they got married in 1952, with Chris passing in December of 2004.
Mary and Chris really enjoyed entertaining friends. Chris did the cooking, Mary made the dip with much garlic. They also loved to take her nephews and nieces on various trips like Disneyland, Wildwood By The Sea NJ, and Kalahari. But what Mary thought of most was her desire to please her creator Jehovah. From the time she was a little girl, she and her sister would go to peoples homes and study the bible with them. She emphasized as the All Bibles bring out at Psalms 37:10 and 37:11 that in Gods Kingdom will bless people with everlasting life in the Kingdom that many people today pray for.
