Lawrence F. Gaia

Liberty Township - Lawrence F. Gaia, 82 passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Monday, March 13, 2023. He was born on September 6, 1940, in Mt. Pleasant, PA to Camillo C. and Rose Santore Gaia. He resided in Liberty Township, Girard, Ohio after growing up in Mt. Pleasant, then Youngstown, OH.

Larry was a 1958 graduate of East High School, attended Youngstown College where he joined the Alpha Phi Fraternity.

A man of many talents, he spent his early career working as a laborer during the construction of Hubbard Estates. His next venture was working in labor relations at Sharon Steel. Next, he transitioned into the field of Human Resources where he became the Human Resource Manager at Royal China, and subsequently the same position at Penn Ohio Towel. While there he became the Purchasing Agent. This position led him to become a Procurement Manager for Central States Buying Group. Not ready to fully retire, he decided to be self-employed selling linens to various restaurants and golf courses into his eighties.

Following in his brother Pat’s footsteps he joined Curbstone Coaches and was on the board of directors.  His baby was his 2000 Corvette convertible. He enjoyed growing his own tomatoes and garlic as well as vacationing in North Myrtle Beach with his family.

Larry is survived by his wife Cheryl Price whom he married on August 22, 1975; three children, Lawrence Gregory Gaia of Struthers, Nicole (Michael) Scott of Powell, OH, and Matthew (Kristen) Gaia of New Kensington, PA; four grandchildren, Payton and Sydney Scott and Anthony and Julianna Gaia; brother, Camillo Gaia Jr. of Austintown; sisters in law, Mary Ann Gaia of Youngstown and Sheila (Terry) Snyder   of Indiana and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Camillo and Rose; daughter, Renee Gaia; brothers, Richard, John and Patrick Gaia; sisters in law Mary Ann Gaia and Genevieve Gaia.

Calling Hours will take place from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Girard, Ohio. A Mass will take place immediately following calling hours.
