John J. Kachurik, Jr., 84, of Bazetta, entered peacefully into eternal life on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 9:30 p.m. in Cortland Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Cortland following a short illness.
John was born Thursday, October 15, 1936 in Royal, Pennsylvania the son of the late John and Mary Gadyar Kachurik and was raised on the family farm in Bazetta.
He was a graduate of Bazetta High School of 1954 and retired from Packard Electric in 1991. John helped to run with his father, brother, Joe and later his son, Johnny, the Kachurik Farms on Durst Clagg Road in Bazetta which is still in operation today harvesting and growing corn and soybean.
John was an avid bowler and enjoyed farming and hunting.
John was proud of his Slovak ethnic heritage and enjoyed all the eats that accompanied it. He was a lifelong member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton-SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Warren, where he was an usher at the 4PM Saturday Mass; a member of the C & M 50+ Club, Men’s Club and 300 Club all of the church.
John married the former Mary C. Petak on October 14, 1961 and they were married for 55 years until her passing on June 10, 2017.
He is survived by his son John A.” Johnny” Kachurik of Bazetta; his daughter Karen (Mickey) Phillips of Warren; grandchildren Allie, Lauren and Caitlin and great grandchildren Karson and Presley. John is also survived by two sisters Mary Ann Beekhius and Eleanor Kessler; and by his mother-in-law Barbara C. Yanci Petak.
Besides his parents, and wife Mary, John was preceded in death by a brother Joseph G. Kachurik; a sister Irene Kachurik; and a brothers-in-laws Kenneth Kessler and Joseph Gledhill.
Calling hours will take place with social distancing and the wearing of a facial covering on Friday, March 19, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial, with Fr. Christopher Cicero officiating, will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2021 in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish-SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 9:20 a.m. in the funeral home Saturday prior in leaving for the church.
Burial will take place in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in John’s name to the Heritage Fund of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 2532 Burton St. SE, Warren, Ohio 44484.
