James Stanton Obituary

James Allen Stanton (Jim) of Warren, Ohio, aged 79, passed away Sunday March 19, 2023, at Hospice House in Poland, Ohio. Jim was born on February 26, 1944, in Wayland, Ohio, to Birney Roy Stanton and Dorothy Heintz Stanton. Jim was a member of the Warren G. Harding Class of 1962. After high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served our country from 1962-1966. Upon completing his military duty, Jim returned to the area and began his career as a manager of Woolworth’s in Ashtabula, Ohio, where he met his future wife, Sandra Kay Monda. Jim’s career also included time spent at Rebhan United and for numerous trucking firms, before ultimately finding his career upon being hired by Packard Electric in 1972. Jim worked there for 34 years, retiring in 2006. While employed by Packard Electric, he became involved with his local union, IUE Local 717 (Later IUE-CWA Local 717). He served in various elected bargaining roles during his time with Packard Electric and made many lifelong friends throughout his career.

Jim married Sandra in September of 1969 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Ashtabula, Ohio. They shared over 53 years of marriage.

During his younger years, Jim loved riding his motorcycle, playing baseball and softball, working in the yard (which he still liked to do in his older years), playing catch with his sons, eating sweets, and always cracking a joke. He also enjoyed driving truck, which he continued to do well after retiring from Delphi Packard Electric, attending air shows, visiting military bases on family vacations, and tracking his family’s lineage. He was the “unofficial” family photographer. Jim chronicled many moments of our family for the last 50 plus years. From sporting events, weddings, anniversaries, family reunions, birthdays, or any other event, Jim was always there shooting away. Over the years, he has taken some especially poignant photographs of his family, especially his grandchildren. We are grateful he did, as he has left us with an expansive visual history of the family which will keep us laughing and crying for many years to come.  Jim was a gentle person who also loved, and was loved by all his family’s various pets over the years (they knew he had treats!)

Jim leaves behind his wife, Sandra, their sons, Jim Stanton (Tasha) of Findlay, Ohio, Mike Stanton (Tiffanie) of Harleysville, Pa, and Derek Stanton (Maria) of Evendale, Ohio, their grandchildren, Kalie Gardner, Mackenzie (Brian) Clark, Nathan Stanton, Riley Stanton, and Brady Stanton, and their great-grandchildren, Greyson Gardner, and Charlotte and Noelle Clark.  Jim also leaves behind a daughter, Von Cline Guiler, of Sardis, Ohio, and grandchildren, Aleisha, Danielle, Josh, and Caleb Guiler.  Jim also is survived by his sister, Ruth Schick of Warren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins across the country.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister, Mary Jeanne Greer.
