James L. Giddings, Sr.

VIENNA – James L. Giddings, Sr., age 84, formerly of Niles, entered into eternal rest Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the Cleveland Clinic.  He was born March 7, 1936 in Richmond, Ohio, the son of Harrison M. and Margaret L. (Hamilton) Giddings, and had lived in the area since the early 1970s.

Jim was self-employed as a truck driver before retiring.  A devout Christian, he was an active member of Liberty Assembly of God, where he served as an usher, deacon, and Sunday School teacher. Jim enjoyed a good challenge, especially with repairing car or truck engines.  He also enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Precious memories of Jim live on with his loving wife of over sixty-six years, Mattie Ellen Gray, whom he married in Berkeley Springs, W. Va. on February 6, 1954; two sons, James L. Giddings, Jr. (Dawna) of Vienna and Ronald G. Giddings (Carol) of Chester, Va.; one daughter, Mary Jane Norris (Elmer) of Jefferson; one son-in-law, Roy Barnett of Liberty Twp.;.nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Winifred Vorse (Clarence) of Ravenna and Patricia Chetian.of Austintown; and one brother, Richard Giddings (Patricia) of Richmond, Ohio.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Harrison and Margaret Giddings, one son, Lawrence Allen Giddings; one daughter, Cathy Sue Barnett; one granddaughter, Heather Zink; and one brother, Roger Giddings.

Services are 12:00 noon Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Liberty Assembly of God, 6779 Belmont Ave., Girard, Ohio 44420, with Rev. Patrick Mitchell officiating.  Friends may call 11:00 am to 12:00 noon at the church.
