Irene M (Dorcik) Zahornek

Irene M. Zahornek, 84, of Warren, entered peacefully into eternal life on Monday, August 3, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. in her home under the comforting care of hospice.

Born Saturday, August 10, 1935 in Central City, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Dorcik Sabol.

A 1957 graduate of Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Irene in nursing for over 42 years.  She worked at both Trumbull Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph Riverside Hospitals and also took classed in cardiac care at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.

Irene was a member of St. John Paul II Parish in Warren and attended faithfully the 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning Mass.  She served as a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound of the church for 4 years.

She enjoyed fishing, golf, bowling, gardening and crocheting.

Irene was married on September 12, 1959 to Richard “Dick” F. Zahornek and they were married for 57 years until his passing on Monday, July 10, 2017.

She is survived by her son Richard J. Zahornek with whom she made her home and by a granddaughter Autumn Zahornek.  Irene is also survived by two nephews Ted “Chip” (Laura) Connor of Concord, North Carolina and Dennis (Janice) Zorman of Boardman and by a sister-in-law Joelann Oshansky of Auburn, Maine.

Besides her parents and husband, Dick, Irene was preceded in death by three sisters Marie Precope, Ann Zorman and Elizabeth Connor; by a brother John Dorcik and by a nephew Michael Precope.

Graveside services will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at All Souls Cemetery, with Fr. Frantisek Katrinak officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Irene’s name to the Building Campaign Fund of St. John Paul II Parish, 420 North Street NW, Warren, Ohio 44483.
