CORTLAND - Harry Neville Hamilton, 84, of Cortland, Ohio, passed away on March 29, 2023, with his loving family by his side.
Harry was born on October 28, 1938, in Warren, Ohio, to Clifford Neville Hamilton and Lillian Alice Holtz.
He graduated from the Texas Military Institute in San Antonio Texas in 1956. Harry earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from The Ohio State University in 1962. Upon his graduation, he returned to Warren, Ohio, as a partner in Hamilton & Meigs, Inc. He and his brother, David, established Warren Concrete and Supply, Inc. in 1965 where he was President until he retired in 2000.
In 1960 Harry married Joyce Sheely in Chillicothe, Ohio. Together they raised four children: Cynthia, Clifford, James, and Richard.
As a man who lost his father as a very young child, Harry’s family was very important to him. Harry was a strong mentor to his children, grandchildren, and many young men through his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America. Harry served as the Scout Master of Troop 126 in Howland, Ohio, for many years. He was also active in the Western Reserve Council where he served on the Camp Chickagami Camp Committee and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for meritorious service to scouting.
Harry was also a charter member of the Warren Evening Kiwanis Club and a life member of the Buckeye Club. He also served as President and Treasurer of the How Kola Hunt Club. Harry was a member of the Vienna Fishing Game Club and the Greenville Sportsmen’s Club where he was an avid trap and skeet shooter. He developed a love of the outdoors and a strong appreciation for nature as a boy. This continued through his adult years. He cultivated this affection for the outdoors in his children and grandchildren, and the many young men he mentored through scouting. Harry treasured the lifetime friendships he formed over the years and loved meeting his buddies for breakfast before going to the gun club. His other great passion was fishing, demonstrated by the over 50 fishing trips he and his friends took over the years to Canadian waters and innumerable hours spent on local lakes, rivers and ponds.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother David. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Hamilton; his children Cynthia Hamilton, Clifford Hamilton (Dorrie), James Hamilton (Ingrid), and Richard Hamilton (Ana Torres); 10 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
