Gary Gibson Obituary

Gary R. Gibson, 83, of Newton Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at 9:08 a.m. at Trumbull Regional Medical Center in Warren.

He was born July 14, 1938 in Warren the son of the late Robert and Pauline Rankin Gibson and was a lifelong area resident.

Gary attended Windham High School and enlisted into the United States Navy prior to finishing high school.  He served his country abroad with the Boston Group Atlantic Reserve Fleet where he repaired submarine periscopes and taught watch repair school and retired from the Navy after serving twenty years with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

After returning from the service, Gary worked alongside his wife Judy at the family business, Gibson Jewelers from 1977 until passing the torch to his son Brian in 2017.

He enjoyed shooting pool and doing karaoke.  Gary was always telling a good story.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson Brandon who he enjoyed shooting pool with, going to their weekly Sunday morning breakfast and teaching him watch repair and other tricks of the jewelry trade.

Gary was married to the former Judy A. Cree on March 6, 1976 and they were married for 43 years until her passing on February 22, 2020. 

He is survived by six sons Roger (Russ Lochansky) Wolfarth of St. Cloud, Fl, Troy (Valerie) Gibson of Windham, Don (Lisa) Wolfarth of Mantua, Tim (Lynn) Wolfarth of Howland, Brian (Bambi) Gibson of Newton Falls, Brent Gibson of Scotland, and son-in-law John Seals of Newton Falls; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a sister Lynnea St. John of Windham; brothers Francis “Duane” (Patricia) Gibson of Windham and Lamont “Monty” (Jean) Gibson of Howland; and a brother-in-law Wick Flower of Florida.

Besides his parents and wife Judy, Gary was preceded in death by a son Gary R. Gibson Jr; daughter Kim Seals; a brother Al Gibson; and sisters Karen Gibson and Gloria Flower.

A Celebration of Life for Gary will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, material contributions my be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
