Eva Shaver Obituary

CORTLAND - Eva Shaver, 94, went to her eternal rest Saturday, June 8, 2019.

She was born Eva Winajean Smith on March 2, 1925 in Richwood, W. Va., the second oldest of five children of Sylvia Cowell Smith and James Roy Smith.

She married Erty Shaver in 1946 and moved to Warren, Ohio in 1957.  She was a life-long resident of Warren until 2017 when she made her home in Cortland.  She worked for the S.S. Kresge Company in downtown Warren for many years, until their closing in 1969-1970.

She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, older movies, reading mysteries, and word search books.

She had a kind heart, and a soft spot for animals of all kinds.  She also had a tremendous sense of humor which helped her through many, many difficult times in her life.  Her nickname growing up and into her adult life was “Happy.”

She is preceded in death by her husband, Erty; three sisters: Garnett Onalee, Constance Ann (Smith) Dawson, and Phyllis Jean; and one brother, Eugene “Buddy” Smith.

She will be greatly missed by her three daughters: Rachel (Larry) Allen of Cortland, Darla Shaver of Cortland, with whom she made her home, and Dora Carroll of Fowler; four grandchildren: Ray Bott of Cortland, Noel Carroll (Kyle Buratti) of Warren, Shane (Linda) Allen of Cortland, and Tim (Kathy) Allen of Rocky Mount, N.C.; five great-grandchildren: Nickolas Bott, Leo Buratti, Cody Allen, Jacob Allen, and Jenna Allen; a niece, Greta Dawson (Ralph) Cox of Summersville, W. Va.; three great-nieces; one great-great-nephew; and two great-great-nieces.

Services are private, per the family’s request.  Private burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
