Donald Lesh Obituary

Donald E. Lesh, 85, of Champion, entered peacefully into eternal life on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 2:22 p.m. in Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

He was born Saturday, October 26, 1935 in Ickesburg, Pennsylvania the son of the late Rosco and Jessie Shover Lesh. Donald was known as Uncle Sonny or Sunny by his brothers and sisters because he was always smiling as a kid.

A Veteran of the United States Air Force, Donald served his country as a firefighter at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam during the Vietnam War.  He served his country abroad in England, Morocco and Korea.  He was honorably discharged and retired from the United States Air Force on March 31, 1973.

Donald was a member of St. William Catholic Church in Champion.  He loved to fish and golf; take walks and watch beautiful sunsets.  What was most important to Donald was his family who he loved and cherished dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years the former Pauline Sabau whom he married on January 3, 1959; five children Daniel (Maxine Fugate) Lesh of Middlefield, Donald (Elizabeth Soule) Lesh of California, Albert Lesh of Boston, Timothy Lesh of Arizona, and Melissa DeJacimo with whom he made his home in Champion; twelve grandchildren Jessica Quiroz, Daniel Lesh, Amber Mooney, Benjamin Lesh, Gina Kassander, Hannah Lesh, Julie Lesh, Ryan Lesh, Natalie Lesh, Chrystyna Lesh, Heather Lesh and Ashley Bowker; and by several great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister Betty Snyder of Pennsylvania.

Besides his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a son David Lesh and siblings Lou, Gene, Richard and Dolly.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, where military honors by the great men of the Trumbull County Honor Guard American Legion Post 540 will be rendered at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial, with Fr. Michael D. Balash officiating, will be offered on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in St. William Catholic Church, preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 10:15 a.m. in the funeral home prior in leaving for the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Donald’s name to St. William Catholic Church, 5411 Mahoning Ave NW, Warren, Ohio 44483.

The family, and funeral home will be practicing social distancing and proper health protocols. Due to the continued and increasing spread of Covid-19, the 6-foot social distancing rule will be honored, and all guests, must wear a mask. For the safety of everyone, we politely ask that all visitors exit the funeral home after paying their respects to the family.  Please do not linger.

The Lesh family understands if you feel uncomfortable or if you are unable to attend, please keep them and Donald in your thoughts and prayers.
