Catherine (Tweedlie) Carney

Catherine Carney, 86, of Niles, passed away peacefully at 7:43 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2021 in Continuing Healthcare of Niles under the comforting care of hospice.

She was born Thursday, October 25, 1934 in Glen Dale, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Thomas and Carmen Smalley Tweedlie.

Catherine retired as the store manager of McCory’s and Spence’s stores.

She was a very active member of the DAV Auxiliary for 50 + years holding positions for local and district offices including Past Commander of Unit #11 District # 6 of Ohio.  Catherine volunteered as a den mother for the cub scouts from 1969 to 1979.  Catherine was also the recipient of the Trumbull County Community Star 2013 Award.

Catherine was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish-St. James Site in Warren.

She was married on June 27, 1955 to James Richard Carney, Sr. and they were married for 59 years until his passing on May 2, 2015.  Together they shared the love of seven children James Richard Carney Jr. of Roswell, New Mexico, Dewaine Carney of Cleveland, Thomas Carney of Dover, Delaware, Eugene (Sally Fiser) Carney of Austintown, Keith Carney of Niles, Robin M. (Carl) Burgett of Severn, Maryland and Teresa (Rod) Hartman of Martins Ferry, Ohio; by twenty-two grandchildren; many great grandchildren and by a great-great grandchild.  Catherine is also survived by her siblings, John T. Tweedlie of Goldsboro, NC, Joseph M. (Rosetta) Tweedlie of Benwood, WV, Patrick N. (Jo Ellen) Tweedlie of Wheeling, WV, Carol A. Menear of Wheeling, WV and Isabella Tweedlie of Wheeling, WV.

Besides her parents and husband, Catherine is preceded in death by two brothers Frederick F. Tweedlie and Robert Tweedlie.

Family will receive friends on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:50 p.m. in the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home.

A Funeral Service, with Fr. Christopher Cicero officiating, will take place on Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Entombment will follow in Pineview Memorial Park in Warren.
