Caroline Palmer Obituary

AUSTINTOWN – Caroline J. Palmer, age 91, lifelong area resident, entered into the full presence of the Lord Saturday, September 12, 2020.  She was born August 10, 1929 in Youngstown, the daughter of Joseph and Rosella Martha (Pupich) Tusin.

No one knew how make lemonade from lemons better than Caroline.  As a child, she was afflicted with osteomyelitis and spent time in foster homes.  Later, she devoted herself to her household and her children, and opened her home to other children as a foster parent.  She was proud of her Croatian heritage and was of the Christian-Pentecostal faith. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and crochet, and somehow knew all the answers to the questions on “Jeopardy.”

Some of the best memories with Caroline were with family gatherings during Christmas, so much so that each one had a gathering in their own home, and the food and baked goods were second to none. The family’s holidays brought true meaning to the Twelve Days of Christmas.  All these nostalgic traditions were and will continue to be carried out throughout generations to come.

She is sadly missed by her three children: Michael J. Palmer of Hubbard, Diane Board (Myron) of Winter Haven, Fla., and Martha R. Seamons of Austintown, her caregiver who laughed, loved, and lived with her; Twelve grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen and RoseMarie, both of Youngstown.t

Preceding her in death are her parents, Joseph and Rosella Martha Tusin; her beloved husband, Olin Palmer, Jr., whom she married January 10, 1953 and who passed March 31, 1973; three sisters: Mary, Margaret, and Virginia “Jinny”; and four brothers: Walter, Richard, Macky, and Bill.

Services for Caroline will be scheduled at a later date.  A Life Celebration service will be planned.
