SOUTHINGTON – Barbara A. Schmitt, age 80, formerly of Warren Township, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren. She was born July 30, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of Alex and Helen Martin, and had lived in Ohio for over fifty years.
Barbara was the secretary for her husband’s trucking firm, Rush Trucking. She loved nature and animals, and was terrific at “Jeopardy,” which she watched all the time. She lived the Philly girl’s dream by being “Barbie” on “American Bandstand,” where she got to meet Elvis Presley and many other celebrities.
She is sadly missed by her three sons: Larry Schmitt, Jr. (Bonnie) of Warren, Ronald Nicholas (Darlene) of Bristol, and Thomas Nicholas of New Jersey; four daughters: twins Barbara of New Jersey and Kathy Ortiz (George) of Howland, Lorraine Schmitt (Bill Bacorn) of Southington, with whom she made her home, and friend John Davis of Warren; and Cheryl Tartaglione of Clayton, N.J.; a special granddaughter, Jackie Iser, with whom she was very close; many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Alex and Helen Martin; her beloved husband of over forty-three years, Lawrence “Larry” G. Schmitt, whom she married March 9, 1972 and who passed March 12, 2015; an one brother, Alex Martin.
Services are 2:00 pm Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home. Friends may call 1:00 to 2:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home. Masks are required, and social distancing practices will be observed.
Interment will take place 10:00 am Monday, November 30, 2020 at Pine Knoll Cemetery.
