Anne C (Rouan) Anastis

Anne Catherine (Rouan) Anastis, 90, died Nov. 15 at her home in Howland Township. 

Born September 1, 1931, in Youngstown, she was the daughter of late Anthony and Agnes (Loftus) Rouan and was a lifelong area resident.

After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1949, she worked in the office of St. Dominic Church and attended Youngstown College where she was taking business classes until 1950, when she was hired as a switchboard operator by Ohio Bell Phone Company. She continued to work at the phone company in a variety of roles until the mid-1960s. During her time at Ohio Bell, she formed life-long friendships with a group of women that she worked with which would get together monthly to play cards or gather for lunches for more than 50 years.

On May 23, 1963, she married John Peter Anastis. Once they started a family, Anne became a stay-at-home mother, volunteering in the schools as a home room mother and then as a library aide. In 1984, she returned to the workforce, first as a cashier at Woolworths, and later in the bursar’s office at Youngstown State University, retiring in 2001. 

She loved to travel, especially with her three sisters, and was a talented seamstress. She enjoyed crocheting and reading. 

Anne was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Warren.

She is survived by her daughters, Cathleen Anastis of Painesville; and Alexandra (Daniel) Anastis-Nichols of Liberty Township; as well as many nieces and nephews. 

Besides her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Catherine Anne Anastis; and by three sisters Dorothy Gebhard; Sarah Byrne; Rosemary Cremens; and a brother Paul Rouan.

Family will receive friends on Monday, November 22, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. until 9:50 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial, with Fr. Frantisek Katrinak officiating, will be offered, Monday, November 22, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. in the church.

Burial will follow in Pineview Memorial Park in Warren.
