Alvin W. Mizner, 90, of Warren, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 10:57 PM at Mercy Health St. Joseph Warren Hospital following a period of declining health.
Alvin was born Tuesday, February 18, 1930 in Hartford, Ohio the son of the late Clifton A. and Clara E. Hart Mizner and was a lifelong area resident.
He enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and served with the Heavy Mortar Company 145th Infantry Regiment out of Camp Polk, Louisiana. He served with distinction and honor in the United States Army and was awarded an honorable discharge on November 29, 1952 at Camp Polk, Louisiana with the rank of Corporal.
Alvin worked with the Warren City Schools first in the maintenance department and then retired as the Transportation Coordinator with a total of 32 ½ years.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 278 of Warren.
Alvin was married on September 19, 1953 to the former Marna M. Thompson and they were married for 63 years until her passing on April 10, 2017.
Fond memories of Alvin will forever be remembered by his children, sons Mark E. Mizner of Gibsonia, PA; Glenn C. (Nannette) Mizner of Virginia Beach, VA; a daughter Velda L. Parsons of Warren; a brother Clair Mizner of Meadville, PA; four grandchildren and two great granddaughters.
Besides his parents and wife, Marna, Alvin was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service.
The family requests memorial contributions be made in Alvin’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
