Mrs. Maxine Elizabeth Hughes Franklin, 85 of Warren, departed this life on August 25th, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.

She was born January 11, 1932, in Laing, W. Va, the daughter of the late John Waverly Hughes and Dorlesia Dalton Hughes. She graduated from Washington High School in London, W.Va.

On March 23rd, 1949, she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. David McKinley Franklin. They shared 58 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in June 2007.

She was employed and blessed to retire from Delphi Packard Electric, a Division of General Motors Corporation.

She was a member of the New Creation Bible Fellowship Church under the Pastorship of Rev. Vincent C. Davis. She was “Mother of the Church” and was affectionately known as “Mother Franklin”.

Mrs. Franklin enjoyed baking, crocheting, knitting, sewing, ceramics, gardening, traveling, watching Western movies and fellowshipping with family and friends. She used the skill set from these hobbies to teach baking, crochet and ceramic classes to numerous people throughout the city of Warren.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three children David L. (Diane), Vickie F. Wade, and Waverly M. (Diretha) all of Warren, Ohio; 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.

A sister: Venzella M. Norris of Warren, OH.

Brothers-in-law: William (Betty Jean), Gordon D. of Warren, OH; William Harris of Dunbar, W. Va

Sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Laughlin and Donna Franklin of Chicago, IL; Doris Rowe of Dunbar, W. Va; Vivian Franklin of Cincinnati, OH; Dixie Franklin of St. Louis, MO ; Thelma Franklin of Riverside, CA; and Lena Franklin of Warren, OH and a host of  nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son – Marvin T. Franklin, one sister – Gwendolyn A. Hughes, two brothers – Leonard and John Hughes, three grandchildren, five sister-in-laws and nine brother-in-laws.

Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 2nd, 2017 at The Church at Warren, 3179 Hoagland-Blackstub, Cortland, OH 44410 starting at 11:00am with calling hours one- hour prior. The family will receive friends at 2306 Cranwood SW, Warren, OH 44485.
