Joseph M. Capan, Jr., 79, of Cortland, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Heritage Manor in Youngstown. He was born November 21, 1938 in Cortland, the son of Joseph Sr. and Virginia (Bania) Capan., and had lived in the area all his life.
Joe attended Warren G. Harding High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked in skilled trades at General Motors in Lordstown, retiring in 1999 after 28 years of employment. He enjoyed fishing, gambling, dancing, snow skiing, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Fond memories of Joe live on with his three sons: Mark (Nancy) of Cortland, Doug (Michelle) of Newton Falls, Joseph III (Connie) Capan of Columbus; one daughter, Susan (Nicholas) Amodio of Niles; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two special friends, Jimmy November of Newton Falls, whom he had known since childhood, and Joe Tomko of Bristol, his fishing buddy.
Preceding him in death are his parents; four brothers; and nine sisters.
Per his request, cremation is taking place. His family will have a Celebration of Life service at a later date.
