Jonathan “Jonathan the Barber” Barrett, Jr., 77, of Liberty Township, entered into eternal rest Saturday, December 8, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman. He was born July 13, 1941 in Fort Pierce, Fla., the son of Jonathan Barrett, Sr. and Marie King Reed, and had lived in Ohio most of his life.
Jonathan was a much sought after local barber for over forty years in Youngstown. He was a jazz music aficionado, and enjoyed watching sports and spending time with family and friends. He was a long time member of St. James Church of God in Christ.
He is sadly missed by his daughter, Tia Barrett; a granddaughter, Rayona Arnold; a niece whom he raised, Regina Thompkins, and her four children; five sisters: Tujina Barrett (B.J.) Lyles; Gail Barrett Jabber, Christine Reed Burch, Mary E. Gandy, and Linda E. Reed; three brothers: Russel Carlisle Barrett, Winn Simpson Barrett, and Thomas Steward, Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his beloved wife of 42 years, Jacqueline Ann (Thompkins) Barrett, whom he married December 15, 1975 and who passed away June 28, 2017; two sisters, Gretchen Barrett Murphy and Monica Barrett Dandy; and five brothers, William Morris Barrett, Joe Charles Leslie Barrett, John Wesley Barrett, Roosevelt Benjamin, and Miles Reed, Jr.
Services are 11:00 am Monday, December 17, 2018 at St. James Church of God in Christ, 75 St. James Place, Youngstown, Ohio 44506, with Supt. George W. Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown. Friends may call 10:00 to 11:00 am Monday at the church.
