John W. Auld, Sr., 85, of Howland, passed away peacefully Friday, April 20. 2018 at home. He was born September 8, 1932 in White Plains, N.Y., the son of John William Jones and Alice (Lindsay) Auld, and had lived in Ohio for seventeen years, coming from New York state.
John served in the U.S. Navy Reserves and worked in auto parts sales. In his younger days, he drove race cars. Throughout his life, he played softball. He belonged to the Westchester County (N.Y.) Football Association and worked many years as a high school football referee.
Fond memories of John live on with his loving wife, Virginia R. (Wright) Auld, whom he married April 12, 1958; two sons, John W. Jr. of Clearwater Beach, Fla. and Douglas F. (Chelsea) Auld of Sidney, Ohio; three granddaughters: Kristen Auld, Shawna (Daniel) Kellmann, and Kayla Auld; a great-grandson, Colton Richter; and a great-grandchild-to-be.
His parents precede him in death.
Per his request, cremation is taking place. Services are private. His urn will be laid to rest at a later date at New Milford Center Cemetery in New Milford, Conn.
