Donald August Wittenauer, Sr. 95, of Girard, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 4, 2018 in the Emergency Room of St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. He was born November 17, 1922 in Hubbard, the son of August and Hattie Wittenauer, and had lived in the area all his life.
A graduate of Hubbard High School, Don served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He retired from Wean United after thirty years as a supervisor. A member of the VFW in Hubbard, he enjoyed gardening, car racing, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and telling stories of his time in the service. He also enjoyed touring Girard in his motorized wheelchair, visiting his many friends.
Fond memories of Don live on with his former wife, Shirley Wittenauer of Girard; two sons, Donald A., Jr. (Sue) of Beloit and Gary (Elizabeth) Wittenauer of Howland; his daughter, Donna (Bob) Carson of Youngstown; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents; three sons: David, Charles, and Michael Wittenauer; seven sisters; and six brothers.
Services are private. Per his wishes, cremation is taking place.
