David Allen, Sr., 99, of Warren, passed away peacefully Monday, February 11, 2019 at home, eight short days before his 100th birthday. He was born February 19, 1919 in Jefferson, Ala., the son of James and Laura (White) Allen, and had moved to Ohio in the 1940s.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he earned a Purple Heart, Mr. Allen retired from Republic Steel in Warren. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and watching late-night television with Stephen Colbert.
Precious memories of Mr. Allen live on with seven children: Laura R. Mason (Rev. Calvin) of Warren, David Allen, Jr. of Warren, Elaine Small of Columbus, Florence Manns of Warren, Darlene Allen of Warren, Diane J. Allen of Niles, and Priscilla R. Johnson of Warren; twenty-six grandchildren, including Jacqueline D. Golden, Carl E. Hudson, Gregory R. Allen, and Tracy Allen, all of whom he raised; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and his nieces, nephews, and their families.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Florence (Phillips) Allen, who passed December 26, 1993; one son, Jimmy Allen; three daughters: Mamie B. Cayson Hunt, Martha A. Allen, and Flora M. Allen; two grandchildren; three sisters: Mamie White, Lucressie Carter, and Daisy Sanders; and three brothers: L.C. Williams, Steve Williams, and Ernest Allen.
Services are 11:00 am Friday, February 15, 2019 at Greater Apostolic Faith Church, 3571 Tod Avenue N.W., Warren. Friends may call 10:00 to 11:00 am Friday at the church. Full military honors will be conferred.
