Dale R. Bowen, 75, of Southington, entered into eternal rest Sunday, July 1, 2018 at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren. He was born May 8, 1943 in Ellwood City, Pa.., the son of Merle and Charlotte (Hazen) Bowen.
He was a 1961 graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City, and earned his degree in electrical engineering from Penn State University.
Dale retired from Peerless-Winsmith in Warren, where he was chief electrical engineer. During his career, he developed the motor for the Navy rescue submarine, and components for the F-16 fighter jet and GE locomotive.
Dale participated in the Cortland United Methodist Church on three volunteer work trips to Redbird, Ky.
He was an avid amateur radio ham, with the call sign W8SHR. He belonged to the Boatanchor Amateur Radio Club. He also loved boating and belonged to the Trumbull Boat Club for several years. He had an extensive HO train set and built a railroad landscape in his loft. He enjoyed sharing time with friends at the weekly Tuesday Night Supper Club, where the group socializes at a different restaurant each week.
Surviving are three sons: Mike (Jolenna) of Jonestown, Pa., James (Bonnie) of Atwater, Ohio, and Terry of Elliottsburg, Pa; four grandchildren: Samantha (Jesse) Maurer, Dustin Bowen, Isabella Bowen, and Bradley (Tamara) Schreckengost; two brothers, Neal of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Bruce Bowen of Largo, Fla.; and a nephew, Neal Bowen, Jr. of Cape Coral, Fla.
Dale also leaves behind his best friend and companion of 28 years, Nancy Leeper of Cortland. Together they shared similar interests in camping, boating, amateur radio, and traveling, making yearly trips to Myrtle Beach and Put-in-Bay, camping at state parks, going on cruises, and traveling out west. They visited both Alaska and Hawaii.
Dale was an unofficial step-father to Nancy’s son Trey (Kathy) Leeper, and was deeply loved by Trey’s two young boys, Levi and Jaxon, who just loved their “Dale.”
Preceding him in death are his parents and a granddaughter, Lonne.
Services are 3:00 pm Friday, July 6, 2018 at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, with Rev. Yesudas Devadan officiating. Friends may call 2:00 to 3:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.
