Clara White Obituary

Clara (Mating) White, age 91 of Warren, Ohio, passed away peacefully at 8:23 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Niles, Ohio following an extended illness.

She was born January 6, 1928 to Hungarian immigrants Louis T. Mating and Clara (Nagy) Mating (who made their citizenship in the U.S.A. arriving to this country through Ellis Island before 1910.)  She arrived to this earthly place at Warren City Hospital in Warren, Ohio. She was the youngest of three children.

Clara completed school through 11th grade at Warren G. Harding High School on Elm Road.  She did not return to school to finish out her senior year as she hand secured employment at the General Electric Ohio Lamp Works on Dana St. in Warren, where she was employed from 1945 to 1953.

Clara married the love of her life, Donald Lloyd White, on October 18, 1952.  In 1953, after realizing she was with child, she resigned from Ohio Lamp to become a full-time mother and homemaker.

Clara was baptized with the Holy Ghost on October 12, 1962 at the Church of the Living God under the pastorate of Elder John H. Patterson.  She was baptized in Jesus name on September 24, 1978 at the Apostolic Faith Church under the pastorate of Bishop James L. Tyson.  She maintained her membership in the Greater Apostolic Faith Church under the pastorate of Dist. Eld. Phillip W. Shealey throughout the remainder of her life.

Clara was a gifted artist and prior to her marriage had considered attend a school of art in New York City, which she abandoned in favor of her fiancée’s proposal.  One of her paintings was of the Lord’s Supper which she presented to the Church of the Living God.  For years, that painting hung in the pulpit of the church.  She also had exceptional skills crocheting and would create beautiful lace borders on ladies’ handkerchiefs.  She enjoyed working crossword puzzles.  When her children came home from school, they could always look forward to some tasty treat she had prepared from scratch.

Clara was always a kind hearted person, who demonstrated her love in whatever way she could.  She was a true mother to her children and boastful Grandmother to those grandsons.  She was a woman of great faith and a dedicated prayer warrior.  Her children can testify to the hours she would spend in prayer, calling each of her children’s names out before God.  She was a devoted homemaker and would often be found singing the songs of Praise while she cared for her children and while doing the housework.  Clara’s life was not an easy one, but you would be hard-pressed to find her complaining about her status in life.

She leaves to treasure her memory her children Donald L. White of Youngstown; Janet Lea White, Mary Jane (Devotie) Moore, and Robert Allen White all of Warren, Ohio; her grandchildren, Timothy (Brooke) Moore and Aaron D. Moore, John, Luke, Glenn and Mark Powell and Jennifer Lynn White along with her great grandchildren, Timothy and Tyler Moore as well as her church family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Louis and George Mating and one daughter Linda Jean White, who she adored.
