Richard Hall, Jr. Obituary

NEWARK, N.J. - Richard J. Hall, Jr. led a life filled with love, family, and community impact. Born on February 2, 1956, in Warren, Ohio, to Richard J. Hall, Sr. and Mary R. Hall, he grew up alongside his sisters Felecia and Gwen, and his brother Myron. His journey continued at Warren G. Harding High School, where his athletic prowess earned him a football scholarship to West Virginia University, graduating in 1975.

In 1976 he met Joy Thompson through a summer program. In 1983 Joy received an offer to teach in New Jersey, and moved to East Orange, Richard soon followed (1984). Their union
was blessed with two sons, Richard J. Hall, III (Kyisha) and Jared Ray (Noel), who brought immense joy to their lives. This joy-filled family expanded with the addition, of four beautiful grandchildren: Logan Jania, Jaxon Gray, Ayla River, and Jasper Ravi (affectionally known as “Ole Man”). Richard was the “junk food” grandfather. When the grandchildren came over, they
made their way to him because they knew he was going to pull out his chips, honeybuns, cupcakes, or anything sweet. Much to everyone else’s dismay, they loved it!

A son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and impactful community member. Richard showed up for his children and others as well. He was a sports enthusiast! His passion for
sports was undeniable, stemming from his own experiences playing football and basketball in high school. He shared his love for sports with his sons, imparting his knowledge and skills,
which led them to receive scholarships after they graduated from high school. He was always ready for a lively debate about the stats of any “pro” player. Richard played ball until health
issues prevented him from playing. This did not stop him from sharing his knowledge and wisdom with neighboring kids, youth in his church, and any kid at any park or gym who was
open to listening and learning. Richard also used his skills at Hoffman LaRoche (Nutley, NJ), where he was a long-time employee and was well respected there.

Richard J. Hall, Jr. touched the lives of many, not just with his words, but with his actions! On April 11th Richard transitioned suddenly at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, New Jersey
surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Sr. and Mary R. Hall, beloved grandmother, Annie Lee Barkers, and his nephew, Fuquan Culpepper. In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, he also leaves to remember and celebrate his life, two sisters, Felicia (Aziza Israel), and Gwendolyn Redd; one brother, Myron D. Hall; and a host of family, friends, the Bethlehem Community Church family (East Orange, NJ); and his sports community. Richard's legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the memories he created.
