Mildred Hunter, 95, of Warren, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017 at home.  She was born March 3, 1922 in Leesburg, Fla. to Jeff and Luvenia Townsend.

She met John Hunter in Moore Haven, Fla. in 1937, and they were united in marriage on February 19, 1939 in Moore Haven.  They were married for 74 years when he preceded her in death on December 5, 2013.

Mildred had a very kind, loving, and strong spirit and was a woman of deep-rooted faith in God and enjoyed studying the Bible.  Her faith and love were evident in her daily life and conversations. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Seventh Day Adventist Church in Leesburg, Fla.  She was the Treasurer and head Deaconess until she had to retire in 2009.  She was also an excellent cook and baker, and over the years, enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends.  For many years, she used that joy to share in the bake sales for the church school.

She loved children and held Bible classes in her home for many children.  She was known as “Nanny” to many who knew and loved her.  Although she and her husband had no children of their own, they helped raise her niece and nephew, Sheila and Richard Ingram. Sheila, Richard and also Arcella were very close to their heart.  They loved them all as their own and shared a special bond with them.  With that bond, Sheila and Richard later lovingly became their primary caregivers.

In addition to her husband, John, she was preceded in death by her father, Jeff, in November, 1988; her mother, Luvenia, in November, 1994; and her brothers Andrew, J.W., Jeff, Jude, and Robert Townsend.

She leaves to mourn her death:  her sisters, Jency Ingram of Warren, Ohio, and Lillian Jean Washington and Louise Baugh, both of Leesburg, Fla.; a brother, Jackie Townsend of Leesburg; her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Townsend of Youngstown, Ohio and Betty Townsend of Detroit, Mich.; her brother-in-law, Dennis Hargrett of Youngstown; her very special niece and nephew, Sheila and Richard (Arcella) Ingram, both of Warren; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Joint memorial services for both Mildred and John will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Warren Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1645 North Rd. N.E., Warren, Ohio 44483.
