Warren – John P. Kowalczyk, Sr. passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Shepherd of the Valley Howland. John was born November 1, 1923 in Cleveland a son of the late John and Victoria (Dulemba) Kowalczyk. John was a World War II Navy Veteran serving from 1943 until 1946. While serving he was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He retired from the Brainard Rivet Company as a Maintenance Machinist in 1986 after 33 years of service. He was a longtime member of the Polish National Catholic Church, the Young Mens Society of Resurrection, Polish Legion of American Veterans Lt Col. Matt Urban Post #164, Army & Navy Union Garrison, Girard, Ohio. He was a lifetime member of the Destroyer Escort Association and the Tin Can Sailors Association. He served as the Past District 12 Director, and the Branch Secretary of the Polish National Union of America. John will be sadly missed by his son: Reverend John P. (Catherine) Kowalczyk, Jr. of Cedar Lake, Indiana; his daughter: Pamela S. (David) Bissell of Howland; brothers: Theodore (Lucy) Kowalczyk of Warren and William (Judy) Kowalczyk of Girard; his sister: Anne (George) Starnes of Warren; sister in law: Blanche Kowalczyk of Warren; four grandchildren: Jeanette (Christopher Plewniak), Stephen, Joseph Kowalczyk and Brandon Bissell; and many nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his parents; his wife: the former Irene Patricia Thomas, whom he married September 22, 1951 and passed away November 2, 2007 and one brother: Joseph Kowalczyk. John was a dedicated family man, true to his Polish heritage and loved to polka. He also took pride in his garden, yard and handy work. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Build a New Beginning Fund of St. Michael the Archangel National Catholic Church, Cedar Lake, Indiana. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016 and from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, 962 North Rd. NE, Warren, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Pineview Memorial Park in Warren with Military Honors.
