WARREN - Betty L. Humes, 89, peacefully passed on to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Gillette’s Nursing Home where she had been a resident for two months.
Betty was born on September 5, 1928 in Cambridge, OH, daughter to Robert and Sarah Headley Wilson. She was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School in 1947.
On May 5, 1950, Betty married the love of her life, Thomas Humes. They made their home in Newton Falls where they raised their three children before moving back to Warren in 1993.
Betty worked for her family owned business, R. R. Wilson & Sons in Warren as a Credit Manager for over 20 years. She was a devout Christian woman, wonderful mother, and loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She dedicated her life to God and her family. She enjoyed going to family birthday celebrations and looked forward to attending the many events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to show her love and support. She and her husband looked forward to the holidays, especially Christmas and the 4th of July where everyone got together. She made holidays special and loved to cook for her family. She was famous for her potato salad and holiday fruit cake. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, reading the Bible, and had a deep love for our country.
Betty played the piano beautifully. She especially like to play the old traditional hymns one right after another. She played the piano up until a month before her passing and brought continued enjoyment through her playing for her family, the staff, and residents of the nursing home.
Many cherished memories of Betty will be carried on by those she showed unconditional love to: her devoted husband, Tom; their children, Craig (Nina) Humes of Southington, Nancy (Wayne) Thomas of Newton Falls, and George Humes of Warren; their grandchildren, Wayne Thomas, II, Sarah (Zachary) Fisher, Melissa Steinbeck, Beth Conde, Thomas (Alyssa) Humes, and Daniel and Jillian Humes; their great-grandchildren, Grace and Mason Fisher, Nicholas and Aubrey Steinbeck, Claire and Rose Marie Humes, Kaylee Conde, and Rocco Pandelli; her brothers, Robert Wilson of Warren, Roger (Kay) Wilson of Vienna; sister, Shirley Johnston of Georgia; and sister-in-law, Theresa Wilson of Cortland, along with a special niece, Lynne (David) Detweiler and her family; plus many nieces, nephews, and their familes.
Betty was proceeded in death by her parents; brothers, Delmar and Craig Wilson; and sister, Lucille Hope.
Per Betty’s wishes, the family will hold private services. Burial will take place at Graham Cemetery in Southington.
